From Yomitan to Zanpa

The other weekend, Matt and I decided to go out and have one of our exploration days.  It seems as our last six months living overseas comes closer and closer, we are trying harder and harder to see parts of Okinawa that we never have before.  This particular weekend was pretty, but also a little windy, making the ocean quite "sporty" as Matt likes to call it.  In other words, scuba diving was out, so we hopped in the truck & headed for the cute area of Yomitan on the west coast of the island to do some site-seeing.

The first thing we saw a sign for was Yomitan Pottery Village, which was an interesting little town full of traditional houses that all specialized in some sort of craft, from ceramics to recycled glass.

Our next stop was to Zakimi Castle Ruins, also in the Yomitan area.  There are so many different castle ruins here in Okinawa, and I didn't think I was all that interested in seeing any more than Nakagusuku, which is the one right by our apartment.  Once you've seen one, you've seen them all pretty much, right?  Well, I'm happy to report that Zakimi was actually really cool and different than I had expected.  The castle walls are super tall, and it has a unique layout as well as great views of the East China Sea.  We went near sunset and got some great photos.

Our last stop was at Cape Zanpa, which I'm sure you've seen in a few of our photos from past posts.  Zanpa  is a sightseeing spot as well as a great diving spot, and we've been there many times.  We decided to chase the sunset and practice some photography here.  And it was especially windy on the cliffs, letting us capture some of the rough water below.

Hope you enjoyed the photos & thanks for following!
